In 2006 and 2007, the Okanagan College Board of Governors voted against increasing tuition fees, thanks in large part to pressure from Your Students' Union, the Okanagan College Students' Union. In January of 2008, the OCSU caught wind that the Board was going to increase tuition fees, despite the fact that tuition fees were already well above the provincial average. The OCSU gathered over 1200 signatures from students on all Okanagan College campuses and organized 'Black Tuesday', a rally against the increase on the day the board voted on the issue. Despite this outcry, the Board ignored the interests of students, and voted to increase tuition fees.
Your Students' Union plans to rally even harder against any planned tuition fee increases. Okanagan College now has the highest tuition fees of any college in BC, and further increases are unjustifiable. Drop by your OCSU office for more information.
